For Sellers
1. Create Your Listing
Click Sell Your Surplus and complete the listing form with:
- Material description
- Category
- Quantity available
- Unit of measure
- Condition
- Price
- Price basis
- Pickup or delivery options
- City & State
- Photos
- Contact Info
Photo Tips: For best results, upload clear, well-lit photos of the actual material. Landscape (horizontal) photos are recommended. Include an overall photo plus close-ups of labels, dimensions, condition, or any damage. You may upload up to 5 photos per listing, with a maximum of 5 MB per photo and 20 MB total.

2. Your Listing Goes Live
After your listing is submitted, it will be reviewed and published on BuildSmart Surplus where contractors, builders, suppliers, and property managers can browse available materials by category or search for exactly what they need.
Your listing remains active for 30 days and can be renewed if the material is still available.
3. Connect With Buyers
Interested buyers contact you directly through BuildSmart Surplus.
You communicate directly with the buyer to answer questions, arrange pickup or delivery, and complete the sale.
4. Sell Your Material
Once your material is sold or is no longer available, simply go to My Account → My Listings, find the listing, select More, and choose Delete Listing. This keeps the marketplace current and ensures buyers only see materials that are still available. It’s that simple!
For Buyers
1. Browse Available Materials
Browse hundreds of surplus building materials by category or use the search feature to quickly find exactly what you need. Listings include descriptions, photos, pricing, quantity available, condition, and seller information.
2. Contact the Seller
When you find the material you need, contact the seller directly through BuildSmart Surplus. Ask questions, arrange pickup or delivery, and complete the purchase directly with the seller.
3. Complete the Transaction
Once you’ve agreed on the details, purchase the materials directly from the seller. BuildSmart Surplus simply connects buyers and sellers—we do not charge buyers any fees or process payments.
4. Save Money & Reduce Waste
